The Fundamentals Program

Where every Gracie Barra student starts — beginners and lifelong athletes alike. Sixteen step-by-step classes that teach the highest-percentage techniques in the order they build on each other.

Why A Curriculum

Most martial-arts beginner classes are random. You show up, you learn whatever the instructor felt like teaching, and three months in you can\'t describe what you know.

Gracie Barra Fundamentals is the opposite. Each of the 16 classes covers a specific lesson with a specific dependency on the one before it. Miss class three and the instructor will pull you aside before class four so you don\'t fall behind. The curriculum makes new students stick because they can feel themselves getting better.

The 16-Class Curriculum

Weeks 1–4

Posture, base, and movement

You learn how to control your own balance before you ever touch a partner. Shrimping, technical stand-up, and the four cornerstone positions — guard, half-guard, side control, mount.

Weeks 5–8

Top control & escapes

How to hold position when you have it, and how to leave when you don't. Mount maintenance, side-control escapes, and the upa.

Weeks 9–12

Submissions from dominant positions

High-percentage finishes drilled from the inside out — armbar from mount, americana from side control, rear-naked choke from the back.

Weeks 13–16

Guard work & submission flows

Sweeps, transitions, and a first taste of live training. By the end of week 16 you have a real student game.

Who It's For
